a boy born and raised in a sinnoh small town. a lot of his upbringing left in the care of his aunt while his dad was away on ranger business and his mother - a renowned surgeon - was often called away to the city for weeks at a time and successfully integrated herself into high society.

robin bore the weight of her expectations to follow in her footsteps and pressured to excel in all that he does. time with friends offered respite and robin learned quickly enough that if he just did as she asked he would have peace and the woman wouldn't follow through on her threats to uproot him. send him to some private school. a place where he'd get a better education than in some backwater town.

he'd be a doctor like her if it made her complacent. if it meant he could stay. he loved his town and it's people until shit hit the fan and they all looked the other way. home became a dangerous place; one liable to stab you in the back and leave you for dead.

he started to see people in a different light.

pandering to that woman's complacency gradually mattered less. he acted out in pure spite of other's expectations of him and his future as a doctor. what little desire there was in becoming one to begin with had diminished. he couldn't help people.

his mother followed through in her threats. uprooted and sent him to a stuffy school that was so far out of any middle-class pay grade. it was there he turned his attentions toward treating pokémon instead. years spent in rigorous study before independence finally came knocking. and with it came new of his father's death in kanto.

he'd never given much thought to his father or his occupation, just that it became a demanding one in recent years. the man's obligation overseas led him to having little to no say in his sons life and a part of robin resented him for not being there to buffer against his wife's eccentricities. a brief video call here and a birthday card there was all he came to associate with him but still, he mourned for the memories of the father he knew.

at the funeral, keeping a respectable distance from his stone-faced mother, robin became acquainted with rangers who worked alongside his father and a new path of opportunity opened for him.
